New Domestic Violence Shelter Set to Open in Hamilton County, Doubling Support for Survivors

A powerful step forward in the fight against domestic violence is coming to Hamilton County. The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) is preparing to open a new domestic violence shelter, one that will nearly double the capacity for providing safety, support, and healing to survivors across Greater Cincinnati.

This new shelter is especially significant — it will be the only domestic violence shelter in Hamilton County, and it’s designed with a family-first approach. Survivors and their children will not only find refuge, but also dignity, privacy, and a strong foundation for rebuilding their lives.

The shelter will include:

  • More than 20 apartment-style units, allowing families to stay together during a time of crisis.
  • Private and communal spaces, giving residents a balance of security and connection.
  • Designated areas for children and teens, recognizing the unique needs of young survivors.
  • 24/7 support staff and trained advocates, offering resources that include legal assistance and mental health services.

This trauma-informed, holistic approach reflects the YWCA’s commitment to treating every individual with respect, compassion, and care. It’s not just about shelter — it’s about healing, empowerment, and providing a safe path forward.

“This new space is more than just a building,” the YWCA has emphasized. “It’s a lifeline for families in our community.”

The public is invited to join the celebration at the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. It will mark the official launch of a vital resource that promises to change lives and uplift those who need it most.

As the shelter opens its doors, it also opens a new chapter for Hamilton County — one where safety, dignity, and hope are available to every survivor who seeks it.
