Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendent to Address Parent Concerns Over Youth Sports Safety

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) Superintendent Shauna Murphy sat down with Don Juan Fasho to talk about Future Town Hall meetings Public Education Funding and The District Direction…

She is also set to meet with parents for the second time this week to address growing concerns about safety at youth sporting events. The upcoming town hall is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Gamble Montessori High School.

This follow-up meeting comes after Cincinnati City Councilmember Scotty Johnson raised alarms about violence surrounding youth sports, which he attributed in part to gambling activity. Although no direct evidence has linked recent incidents to sports betting, Johnson’s remarks have stirred conversation citywide.

“Even the idea of betting on children is something we cannot allow in our community,” Johnson said during a recent council session. His concerns prompted CPS to implement new safety rules and adjust schedules for athletic events last fall in an effort to create a safer environment for students and families.

Superintendent Murphy aims to reassure parents and guardians, provide clarity on recent incidents, and outline the steps CPS is taking to protect students at school-sponsored sporting events. Thursday’s town hall will serve as a platform for open dialogue between CPS leadership and the community.

Parents and community members are encouraged to attend, share their concerns, and hear directly from district officials about how they plan to move forward.
