In the heart of Cincinnati, a powerful movement is rolling forward—on wheels. The Cincinnati Dragons, a wheelchair basketball team, is doing more than just winning games. They’re creating a vibrant, inclusive space where young people with disabilities can thrive, grow, and shine.

Founded by Jacob Counts, a former Paralympian with a passion for giving back, The Dragons provide an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to discover their strength, both on and off the court. It’s a team built on more than just athletic ability—it’s about community, confidence, and connection.

Take 12-year-old Rose Bennett, for example. Like many young athletes on the team, Rose found not just a sport to love, but a place to belong. Through practices, games, and mentorship, she’s been able to develop her skills while forming friendships that go beyond the court. And she’s not alone—players of all ages and experience levels are welcomed and encouraged to push their limits in a supportive, empowering environment.

Whether it’s through coaching or playing on multiple levels, participants learn to focus on what they can do, not what they can’t. The Dragons are committed to helping athletes build confidence and independence, proving that a wheelchair is not a limitation—it’s a launchpad.

“Our goal is to create a space where kids feel seen, celebrated, and supported,” says Counts. “This is more than a basketball team. It’s a family.”

As the team continues to grow, so does its impact. The Cincinnati Dragons are redefining what’s possible and showing the world that strength comes in many forms.

Because when passion meets purpose, nothing can stand in the way.
